A while back russwinter published a list that I had trouble adding to. Country risk is now a bigger factor than then and it's going to be more important going forward. Big gold deposits are hard to find and they are most likely to be in countries that are problematic with respect to USA values. So you have to pick more carefully.

When you cut all the bull from the politics it's starting to look like North America is where the institutional money is going to buy ands stay. The major companies can still take a longer view but I'm not sure money managers can. Also, there may be a shift from gold deposits, of several deposit types, to the large copper-gold porphyries.

We should find russwinters' post and look it over and make some recommendations with respect to the country risk that I believe is the new variable.
