I clearly remember watching CNN in May of 1986 and seeing a story about the U.S. government supplying weapons to Saddam Huessein in his fight against Iran. I also remember seeing stories that we were supplying Saddam satelite images of Iran's troop movements. Perhaps it was our "official" policy not to ally ourselves with Saddam. But, as so many times in the past, the government does things in secret against official policy (like in Iran/Contra), the black ops in government were likely working closely with Saddam to keep the Iranian revolutionaries in check.
