Jim Re..France, Germany and Russia clearly have economic ties to Iraq. If we do go in, I suspect we will find out just how large the ties are and it will be an embarassment for them.

Frankly, I have changed positions on this over time. I doubt if France can be embarassed very much, as France supplied weapons to the Hutus in Rawanda, and stood by while they slaughtered a million Tutsis. And surrendering within 20 minutes to Hitler doesn't seem to bother them either. My bet is that they are beyond being embarassed over anything. If you listened to Al and TEd, you would know that France and GErmany fear us; they fear us economically. They especially fear how much the US would gain if the US turned the middle east into a new europe, with all of the oil producing countries beholden to the US for protection, just as they were. The US rebuilt Europe, and just look at how much the US gained. The same could happen in the middle east. Europe can't compete with us now economically, how much more difficult will it be when the US allies with the oil rich middle east, having access to oil, and providing all of the food and goods they need at a good profit. That is what they fear.

Also cost them money.

Unlike us...not that it matters when you are on so noble a mission.

Bushes biggest mistake so far (if he IS going in) is that he has waited so long.

Bush's biggest mistake is that he was too lazy to line up his ducks. It was too easy to criticize the positions of other nations rather than work with them.

Keep saying this over and over and maybe, just maybe, it might come true.
