AG is on his way out.
If he has any brains left at all (quite debatable) he will attempt to lay the blame on actions by Bush or his successor.

This late in the game the very best he can hope for is to create some controversy, disagree with the administration and hope the blame for this mess fall elsewhere.

If Bush plan gets passed and greenspan warns against it and the economy goes to hell Greenspan can point the finger at Bush. It is his only prayer at this point, and quite simply not a good one.

I doubt Bush plan passes and I doubt Greenspan will ever be able to absolve himself of this mess but right now an argument with Bush is his only hope.

He has taken it.
