Yes, considering the "killer ap" to take over this market will
probably be a garden variety PC integrated as a TV receiver, multimedia center, record/playback appliance as easy to use as a typical TV now.. I figure TIVO has maybe three years left for strong growth. Would really be surprised if MSFT does not make a major move in this area within the next couple years. The combination with HDTV technology makes it a natural... maybe even a TIVO buyout?

Even though most analysts are positive today, Thomas Weisel downgrades TiVo based on back-end loaded year, and "in anticipation of further study on Time Warner Cable's roll-out of PVR-cable set-tops made by Scientific Atlanta"

...whatever that means

They lower their target from 13 to 8, which is in line with other analysts now.

Weisel's downgrade is predicated on Carmel Croup projections that PVR business will be tied to the set-top box, with little room for stand-alone appliances.

That contradicts what has been discussed here about VOD taking priority at MSOs.
