I certainly hope Bush doesn't get re-elected but not with the price of so many lives lost.

The powers that decide these things must think they can pull it off or they wouldn't do it. Maybe they think they can still control COngress if not the White House in 04.

Of course, Bush could resign for health reasons. And then Cheney could resign for health reasons. Then Hastert could caretake until the next election.

By the way, what is the constitutional succession for the vice presidency? It might be that Cheney has to resign first, then Bush, ala Nixon and Agnew. Anyone remember Agnew?
