China Mobile rejects reports of chairman's departure

China Mobile (HK) Ltd (941.HK) rejected speculation that its chairman Wang Xiaochu is leaving the company.

In an e-mail statement, it said "any speculation of his leaving the company was purely an absolutely unfounded rumour without grounds."

The company was responding to reports that its chairman may join rival China United Telecommunications Corp, as part of a series of management changes at mainland state-owned companies to be announced at the ongoing National People's Congress.

Separately, the company also clarified that a recent report about the company's testing of TD-SCDMA technology was also untrue.

In fact, it was Datang Mobile Communications Equipment Co Ltd which made use of China Mobile's network to test its own technology, it said.

The company said it currently does not have any investment plan for 3G technology and would remain cautious on any future investments in 3G.
