So would a brain surgeon do a better job if the patient's family held a knife to the surgeon's son's throat? All you succeed in creating is an atmosphere of fear and good decisions may not necessarily follow.

Your suggestion of a Constitutional amendment is pretty silly. Imagine the unintended consequences. First most people who ran for office would be those without children. Would we then expand the amendment to include spouses, gay partners, first cousins?

Maybe it would be easier to just elect leaders we think take lives seriously whether its their son's life or the life of a Marine from a town they've never heard of. It's called responsibility and there's not any way you can legislate it.

Did you ever see the movie Fail Save where the president dropped a nuclear bomb on New York despite the fact his wife was there?
