I think all it shows, is that despite what your previous post stated that only people without families would run for the office, the elected officials would still vote for war if they strongly believed in it. The hypothetical situation you described is closer to what I asked for than to the existing position that there is no direct effect of war on those who make the call for it.

Like I said, I did not see the movie. But since you have, why don't you speculate on how it would have been if instead of New York with his wife in it, the president had to make a call on dropping the bomb on a remote pacific island with no economic value to US. Do you think the dynamics of opposing voices you heard in the movie would have changed?
