The patriot Act and the potential for Patriot Act II to be enacted are not needed to fight terrorism. They needed to do more to find the terrorists threats with what they already have. Not creat a whole new dept of Homeland Security. Also suspend due process for anyone categorized as a terrorist threat. These are dangerous precedents and can be abused. Hard cases make bad law. And this is a hard case and bad laws are being enacted. It wasn't the lack of these new laws that made it possible for 9/11. It was the incompetence of the FBI, and CIA. The too easy imigration. Beef that up. More agents to track and deport overstays. Airport security was said to be inadequate for 30 years by government studies. The blame lies with the people who have been in charge. Not inadequate laws, it was inadequate action!
