AT&T, Cingular is not incentivising, they are outright forcing people to change. That isn't what I call free market forces for why GSM is "selling".

Engineer, do you have any evidence of these strong-arm tactics? If you have any inside information, I do know quite a few people that depend on AT&T TDMA for business purposes and would like to warn them before their service gets cut off. On the other hand, when I bought my GSM phone from them, the salesperson tried to persuade me to consider TDMA instead. Maybe he never got the company directive?

engineer,

<< GSM growing ONLY because TDMA failed? >>

It doesn't appear that way. The fastest growing "nationwide" network in the US is T-Mobile and significant migration of IS-136 to GSM subs of AWS and Cingular, or Dobson hasn't even really begun to pick up steam YET ... and is not being aggressively marketed by either YET.

There is a very aggressive move by AWS affiliates to migrate to GSM EDGE in both 800 and 1900 MHz in preparation for aggressive marketing efforts, however.

<< AT&T, Cingular is not incentivising, they are outright forcing people to change. >>

Would you care to elucidate on that? That has not been my observation but it is entirely possible that I have failed to observe something that you have observed.

Do you also feel that US Cellular is "outright forcing people to change" from AMPS and IS-136 to 1xRTT or are they approaching the migration differently that AWS who is in turn approaching the migration differently than Cingular.

TIA and Best,

- Eric -

Eng - I called PCS tech support about the poor speed that I was experienceing. They look at our details and concluded alomst immediately that although we had sigend up for 1X and bought the I 330 and been in touch with PCS before in order to get hooked up in the first place ......we were not on "Premium Service" and therefore were still operating at 14.4Kbps.

The support person then upgraded us to "Premium Service" by downloading something to the I 330. He sad we ought now to experience near cable moden speeds.

Well I have to say that ?I think it is faster but it still doesn't feel like its over 30 Kbps. I can't remember who said this when they said " I don't know what the definition of pornography is but I know what it is when I see it".

One thing I can say for sure and that is that I do not like the Blazer browser.

Best,

L
