In the interest of fairness we put guns to people heads at random and force them into uniforms? So instead of a military full of people eager to do the job we have a mob of resentful conscripts?

If you're intention is to wreck the military, just work to slash their budget. That would be the honest track. The thought that you would accomplish your political goal by ruining people's lives is just repugnant to me.

I've always liked the draft because I think a military made up of a cross section of society is less likely to stage a coup.
