tejek,

re:They are no longer our friends......so why not do it now?

You're right so why wait for the UN veto from them?

re:what do you think of Rumsfield's call to pull our troops out of the DMZ?

I believe the South should take on more of their own defense responsibilities. Positioning our troops on the DMZ does little for our intelligence gathering or ability to deter the North. Sadly it appears the South's new government looks content to let the North acquire nukes and live with the problem. I would like to see us pull back from the DMZ and close the Yongson Army base in Seoul as well. We could reduce our presence to Osan and more southern bases to continue our joint intelligence efforts with the South and provide a strong Air capability. Ground troops could be brought in if/when needed. Of course this assumes our government deals with the issue of troop mobility at home.

Knowing the North our moves away from the border could be seen as a green light to the North to invade.

It may be a good idea in the long run but I would not have bought it up at this time.
