We may have bases...but we don't run those countries and we pay them tribute...not the other way around....

<<Er... we do have more military bases scattered around the world (in over 122 countries) than anyone else.>>

Much of this is simply due to our greater population than other western nations. Ever thought about the German air base in Alamogordo N.M. U.S.A. - I've heard it said(with anger) there "Alemán usted debe hablar español o hablar por lo menos inglés."? The French bases in the Ivory Coast,Abidjan and Libreville,Chad, Djibouti; Gabon and Senegal, and Sierra Leone(with the UK). The French are not limiting themselves to Africa, note their(hated) permanant base in Madagascar, ground troops in Kosovo & their aircraft carrier "Charles de Gaulle" in the Arabian Sea or military bases in Beirut! Not even the liberal Dutch are free from current day colonial actions - Dutch military bases - Dutch antilles in the Carribean!! Many Irish consider British Troops & bases on their soil the act of an occupying army & none can forget the British in the Falkland Islands. Don't even begin to try to infer that we are the only country with military bases outside our shores!
