I agree - this French-German-Russian-Chinese alliance is just a rather arbitrary temporary get-together.

In German we have the term "Gesetz des Handelns", the "law of acting" - he who acts has an advantage. Compared to the generally glacial movement of politics in pre-9/11 times there's a notable acceleration with the USA driving the agenda. In the medium term (3-5 years) this won't change, there will only be token opposition during the rebuilding of America's defenses.
