He had a chance to stand up for his beliefs and what did he do? He lied and then bolted. Mohammed Ali, heavyweight champion of the world, stood his ground like a man. He was jailed, but he earned the respect of a nation. Bill Clinton committed fraud, while others carried his baggage.

Almost the entire GOP leadership dodged the Vietnam War. Ironically the Democratic leadership includes quite a few who went and fought. Kerry volunteered despite easy ways to get out of it. It's very moving to hear his story of how he went in gung-ho, was baptized by fire then came out realizing the war was a mistake and lives were being wasted. He even had the Cadets at the Citadel givbe him a standing ovation afterward.
