re:good question why Japan hasn't made more of an effort to switch over to a hydrogen economy? They are 100% dependent on foreign oil.

Honda is one of the best engine companies in the world - even in small motors (lawn mowers and outboards) they are considered to make some of the finest. They are however making some very nice progress on Hybrid gas/electric cars. I can see that as having mass appeal long before we figure out how to create huge quantities of Hyrdogen.

You can also consider France, they don't have lot's of Hydro i.e. rivers so they use Nuclear and have nearly 50% of their power generated by Nuclear plants. Of course that's just not PC here in the "New Age".
