Well said, Jacob. I keep looking for sentences/paragraphs which will say that we are discussing policy options, their goodness and badness with our feeling about those options right on our sleeves. But we need to stay away from imputations about one another's motives.

The point I was making wasn't about John as a person, it was about the concept of authenticity, the concept of owning one's own voice as an actor in history.
