It will be interesting to see the whole story come out, to say the very least.

I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't a deliberate "shot across the bow" of the French by the Bush administration. Gertz is well known for having some pretty credible sources, as well as being a channel for "official leaks" when useful..

And if this is the case, we'll likely see even more revalations.. And since France has taken the lead in opposing using military force to make Saddam comply, they make the most likely target of this propaganda campaign (propaganda can be either truthful or false)..

My gut suggests we will walk softly with regard to exposing any Russian complicity, and the same with Germany, since we truly wish to protect those relationships. But with France, they have often been found on the wrong side of important issues, placing their petty political schemes in order to "tweak" the noses of the US. So I sense we aren't especially concerned about where that relationship goes down the road. Once isolated, France will follow..
