I have been that route already and perhaps that is why I see things the way I do. For many years, South Africa was under terrorist attack, prior to the ANC take-over. There were bomb threats in schools, shopping centers etc etc and quite a few actual incidents. The SA government taught us that every black was a potential Marxist terrorist and we were at war with every African and Communist country. The SA government also invoked God and religion into our cause and contended that God gave SA to the white man and that blacks were "non-believers". Anyway, and as you know, all that changed when the ANC took power and became the government (which, incidentally, was sanctioned by both the US and the UK). Today, whites live happily in a country run by blacks. There is no more terrorism. Yes, many things have changed but we still enjoy quite a good standard of living and, as result of our "democracy", have achieved recognition and respect from most countries in the world. In fact, SA has become an example of how people of different races and religions can live happily together. The hard part for many whites has been to learn to live with blacks and Asians etc as equals. For me, it was easier because I worked most of my professional life in a largely black hospital so I did not have the xenophobia that many of my countrymen had. Still, it hasn't been easy for me, either, but I think it will be easier for my children and grandchildren. What I have learned is that it is no longer a white man's world and that we cannot stop the clock by force. To survive we have to "go with the flow" and hope for the best. >If Bush is wrong at least we have cleaned out an evil dictator with little loss of life(I hope). I wish you and your fellow Americans the best of luck and foresight to come to the right decision at this extremely difficult time.
