hmmm ... the other problem is that's the way it happened last time and everyone is banking on that, even though there is a lot of press to the contrary. You ask folks not on these boards and you will find that most believe the media. Once the uncertainty is removed, the economy will recover straightaway. The conviction is so strong that there will probably be a minor bump in the economic aggregates just for this reason.

There was an intersting piece the other day on NPR regarding gasoline prices. Refiners not wanting to be stuck with inventory should the government decide to tap the strategic reserves. The government says they aren't going to tap the reserves, but the refiners don't believe them -- now what if the government is true to its word <g>

Financial markets have been reduced to a game of liar's poker. Guessing what the other guy thinks you are going to do and then trying to do the opposite and profit by that. It's all going to end soooo badly.
