These were really big lies.

No. They were statements made in the comfortable naivete allowed by our once pre-911 world. Bush is now wiser - at least I hope so.

Tim Russert and Tom Friedman of NY Times just discussed Bush and Iraq. The following came out. Bush is narrow-minded, has blinders on, is taking a tremendous risk, has done little real diplomacy, is trying to boss around the world, thinner than expected support at home and unless he gets very lucky in Iraq (which we hope) he will be finished.

Bush has put himself in a corner. He cannot back down without losing face, and cannot go forward without tremendous risk and unknown costs. But military victory is only the first chapter. We may need 250,000 troops deployed in Iraq to pacify the place and that means half our army. So what if there's trouble in North Korea? And what about the budget-busting cost of this? Trouble indeed. Oh yeah, and yes they did discuss Bush lying about the Saddam-Al Qaida connection. It was a lie.
