Frankly, I think they just want control of where it goes. An article in the LA TImes last year made the case for the growing oil needs of emerging nations like CHina and India. Both those countries have huge populations and their need for oil will geometrically increase as their standard of living increases. We won't be able to compete with them.

Bush can't lose with his war on Iraq - I thought it was rather interesting that Bush didn't seem to do anything to help resolve the strike in Venezuela! I think high oil prices are part of the plan. If Bush had to deal with the real problems like the economy his popularity would be a lot lower than it is now and the only shot he has at getting re-elected is a perpetual sate of war at least until after the election.
