You said....." No lorne, I represent, support and believe in the America I learned about as a child in school. That country was a place where free people chose representatives to carry out the objectives of the majority. The idea was the government was intended to be weak and the people being governed strong. Taxes were intended to be the bare minimum to support the necessary expenses of the public servants chosen to represent us. It was a country where people were free to believe what they wished without their thoughts and actions being controlled or manipulated by others. Above all it was a country where the highest office of government was refused the power to control the people without restraint.
Perhaps it was only a dream by those idealists who paid the blood price you mentioned, but even so, I happen to believe it was a good dream. ".....

Can't argue with above statement but tell me which country in your opinion comes closest to that dream? iraq, iran, saudi arabia, etc. all of them our enemies and all of them islam dictatorships. You have made it clear to all here which you support.

You said...." I doubt those idealists ever envisioned America being a place where the media was under almost complete control of the government, ".....

Can you explain why then do all media appear to be showing day after day after day the pro sadam and anti Prez Bush protesters but seldom do we hear of those who support the absolutely correct position of Pres.Bush and if you have been paying attention at all you know the pro Bush side has more supporters....Why if the media is government controlled do we not see the supporters of USA policies?

You said..." They believed that through freedom of the press and through freedom of speech, all voices would be heard thus eliminating the primary weapons of dictators and kings.".....

And just how do the peoples of a country ruled by a dictator like sadam gain freedom of speech, freedom of religion etc. If anyone of them should dare to speak out against the dictator they would be killed...agreed? So I ask you if a country like the USA has the means to help a country such as iraq gain some freedoms are they morally obligated/required to help such people?
And how about the weapons of mass destruction, should a dictator like this be allowed to use these weapons?

You said...." Perhaps you find it unAmerican of me to hold to those ideals in a place where for every two hours we work,"....

NO, don't think that at all. I bitch about taxes all the time but the point here really is we are FREE to bitch if we choose to...not so the people of a place like iraq. They bitch they die.

You said...." and where a court decided who's vote counts and who's vote doesn't and where one person gains the power to make war - against the will of the people and against the will of the free world "....

Now we get to what is really bugging you. You are a poor loser gore supporter and you turn against your own country just cuz you didn't get your own way.....A COURT decided, remember.

You said...." and where one person gains the power to make war - against the will of the people and against the will of the free world. ".....

What do you mean " against the will of the people " ? You think just because the media shows anti prez Bush and pro sadam protestors over and over that this represents the will of the people of the free world. Get real, they are a very small percentage of the population of the free world. And anyway think about those in the world who are not FREE as we are. You and the so called anti-war people are truly a selfish lot. And another thing I don't know anyone who is not anti-war, nobody wants war but thank goodness there are those who are aware of the price of freedom and are willing to fight to keep what we have ....such as it is....our system may not be the best but tell me Don what system is better?

You said...." Perhaps it is wrong to hold on to the dream long after the dream has died. If so, I'm wrong, but I feel a deep sorrow for those such as yourself who never had the dream. ".....

The dream has not died but it could be killed if people like you don't start counting your blessings and start to think about those who have no dreams or the means of making any dream come true....WAKE UP!
