i believe somebody offered that proposal but it got shot down because anything resembling a Kurdistan causes all sorts of problems for our ally turkey who is currently repressing the snot out of its own kurdish population.

personally i find it a very acceptable alternative to blowing the piss out of the place. and don't just send in inspectors, send in inspectors with armed blue-hat escorts.

that's a great idea. however, it may require more forethought and patience than typifies our current administration.

You missed another reason: there is little oil in the Kurdish regions
