>>>> two slightly different takes on GSM1x co-opting

I find it most interesting that GSM1x is being developed in conjunction with the Chinese. If it is successful, not only will the Chinese have phones for their own markets, they'd also have a high valued product added to their kitty of tradable goods.

How would the Europeans take to having the phone tables turned?

In a similar vein, GSM1X might well give the Europeans some incentive to accelerate their UMTS efforts. And, if folks aren't careful, EDGE overlays may come out facing an even more formidable competitor than just cdma 2000 1x.

>>>>> reminiscent of the difficulties Q had with CDMA

You are right, the bar has been raised for all parties and in the overall scheme of things, we might well be back to the start of an entirely new round, leaving the last round in a state of inconclusive flux.

may this ... may not that ... anyone tallying the "may" and "may not"s?

Trevor

ps GSM1x also attacks the TD-SCMDA efforts in the same way it entices UMTS efforts and adds risk to EDGE efforts?
