>>> handoffs from and/or to analog

I do believe that Bell Mobility does handoff between analog and cdma. Unfortunately, since they have recently upgraded almost all of their analog areas to digital, it's no longer a big issue. Although, we still get the occassional beep (indicating digtal<->analog shift) when traveling in the out-of-the-way country.

Handoff has two components. One is the air interface and the other is the core network. cdma, analog (NA), TDMA and IDEN(?) use ansi 41 network protocols. GSM and analog (Europe) use GSM-MAP network protocols. Handoff between an ansi-41 network and a GSM-MAP network is much different from cdma/analog handoff (with the same network core).

I trust Eric will pipe in as he know this stuff much better than most folks.
