Bush shows no signs of anything remotely similar to this. He is able to move against popular opinion only because he is certain of the righteousness of his actions. There are, over time, only a few leaders about whom this can be said. For the most part, you know who they are -- those who we recognize as "great".

It has been said repeatedly that Bush ignores popular opinion because of his relationship with God. Well, sorry. I am afraid that isn't good enough for me. Furthermore, to label his behavior in the past year as greatness is a major stretch. As far as I can see, there has been considerable mismanagement and manipulation when it comes to the issue of war with Iraq. Greatness doesn't come out of thin air; its there from the get go.

a leader brings his people together and joins with his allies to fight a common enemy.

People will come together in due time. The French and Germans are off on their own, unrelated jaunt -- with different objectives. They are simply trying to prove their respective manhoods by standing up to the United States, the lone superpower.

While I understand your motivation, there is a very good chance your view is wrong. What may appear to be commitment could well be the obsession of an alcoholic. Alcoholics do obsession well........its why I am concerned.

Many, many wars are started and fought based on moral righteousness. A study of the western world shows many examples of wars devoid of pragmatic wisdom.

Theme song of the Bush administration "we are soldiers of the Lord, marching as to (off to) war!". Better get your hymn books out and get your backbone straight, take stock in the American war machine - only true believers will be allowed in, Pax Regnume be damned.
