You don't suppose that they might actually be purposely setting up Bernanke to demonstrate for the history books the folly of the printing press? I mean, you've tried a massive experiment to print your way through K-winter, you realize that every attempt to paper over one problem creates a bigger problem elsewhere. You don't want it to tarnish your rep, but you'd also like the world to learn the real lesson - printing doesn't solve the problem. So, you pick Bernanke, you tell him to talk up this "printing press will fix everything" shtick, and then let it all fall apart in his lap. Perhaps Bernanke even knows what is coming. Somebody has to be the poster child for the failure of easy money - maybe they've chosen him to carry the banner into battle and be visibly slaughtered as a lesson to all?
