Can you say something by way of backup and evidence relative to this statement?

Certainly.. since almost everyone against this war seems to deliberately ignore the Multi-Billion dollar contracts that France has ALREADY SIGNED with Saddam, including oil concessions for unexplored regions of Iraq...

And Russia signed a $40 Billion deal with Saddam last year..

And more Russian deals:

Russian business has long-standing interests in Iraq. LUKoil, the biggest oil company in Russia, signed a $ 20 bn contract in 1997 to drill the West Qurna oilfield. Such a deal could evaporate along with the Saddam regime, together with a more recent contract with Russian giant ZarubezhNeft, which was granted a potential $ 90 bn concession to develop the bin Umar oilfield.

I think that amounts some 150+ billion pieces of "evidence"..
