Re: I assure you that your administration knows this as well. The imminent war on Iraq has nothing to do with terrorism and everything to do with control - control of the oil, control of the region

Not my administration. As for my thought about this, I do believe that Bush(at least) think that he is fighting the evil, not sure about the people behind him(which I kind of agree with you that it is about stability of oil source).

You see, terrorism is not a disease you can eradicate by killing all the sick (even then, it would have been questionable to do so). It is a method used by the weak against the strong, rebels against a state, etc

I said that right after 911 and asked my fellow American friends to ask the simple question of "why someone would hate them to an extend that they use their life as the weapon" ? Unfortunately, most of them like the answer of "they envy us".

You see, terrorism is not a disease you can eradicate by killing all the sick (even then, it would have been questionable to do so). It is a method used by the weak against the strong, rebels against a state, etc. It is cowardly at times, painful, and unfair. However, it is just a method - states have armies of soldiers, dissident groups fighting them have terrorists (or "freedom fighters", depending on your perspective). As such, you cannot stamp out terrorism, unless you know of a way to make sure nobody will ever disagree with, and rebel to, their government or to yours.

Exactly...why do so many people buy into the idea that some people are willing to blow themselves up just because!

There is a solution to this. And the solution has been clear all along. It just doesn't sit well with the nature of a hard-liner. Find out the root causes of terrorism and provide an alternate non-violent method for the majority of terrorists/freedom-fighters to present their case and marginalize the rest. If they believe that a democratic path to their goal exists, they will prefer that over suicide.
