National interests and marking of territory, if Iraq action proceeds as per plan Europeans and Russians will loose the maximum political capital and influence, don't forget lower oil production keeps higher oil prices Russian are great benefactors of oil prices north of 35$’s, Russians have billions outstanding on weapon supplies the incoming opposition would definitely renegade on payments. Total Fin , Lukoil and Gazprom are major players in Iraqi oil explorations all these contracts may be re-negotiated. The nations who are telling the world that it is Americans going mad for oil are actually themselves motivated by loss of sphere of influence, the opposition in Iraq is more Anglo-Saxon based and has some bad memories of relationships between some European leaders and Saddam. If I was a great friend of Saddam I would be a worried nation since I made no bridges with the incoming opposition. Mesopotamia and Levant has always been an area of influence of Germany and France to see it going other way is not easy to swallow, you on the other side of the Atlantic would ot appreciate the historical connections between Levant, Syria Iraq and Europe. US influence in Peninsula is unparallel with Iraqi government pro Anglo –Saxon, Pax- Americana would rule supreme in the Gulf, the region that holds 60% of the known OPEC reserves.
