"What form of electricity production would you have the US switch to?"

You already purchase a great deal of your energy. Eventually, all fossil fuels will have been depleted.

Again...my point is not to insist on immediate switching. Rather, my point is to sugest that is is worthwhile to understand environmental concerns, and to actively seek to engage ecological issues without smugness or disdain.

"If you mean to disagree with the idea that the idea that you can greatly reduce NO and SO2 by modernizing power plants or switching fuels from coal to oil or gas while still emitting a lot of CO2 then I would have to say that you claim is not based on very solid science."

In the last 3 decades we have made great gains in burners, thermostats, car exhausts and so forth. I assume we can both drink to that. Cheers!

"What works well for Canada might not do so well for the US"

And vice versa... You are entitled to argue pragmatism rather than principle...or even a combination.

"perhaps we will have fusion power plants, or large solar power satellite"

Who knows? My point is that people do not need to be ignorant about these matters, but have a choice...

"When you increase the cost of producing something, you may price some people out of the market for it."

Surely. You make cigarettes $100.00 a pack you will lose some smokers, all right.
