That's probably the best way to change the world. Unfortunately it's also one of the slowest. It's also predicated on the idea that the other party in a dispute wishes to change the world (for the better) as well.

Example: Someone once asked Ghandi why he had always been so confident of his ability to boot Britain out of India without resorting to violence. His answer was along the lines of "I counted on the basis human decency of the British people."

In the case of Iraq we cannot count on the basic human decency of the Iraqi people -- not because they lack it, but because they have no avenues to express it.
