Agreed. I'd suggest that the way forward, now that the problem is admitted (and I still find myself thinking of this AlAnon meeting) is first to publicly forswear the action, to declare "I will not use torture. I am better than that, I am moral, I will not abuse and torture people." ... and at the same time make the words true. That'd be positive. And that was my original reason for harping on this, and trying to refute the 'justification' made by saying "Well, it's not as bad as Saddam."
