No it's not news to me. Do you not believe that if the United States offered to protect France's Iraqi oil interests it would come out in favor of deposing Saddam? I know it's hard to know, seeing as Chirac does like to chum with other despots like Mugabe, so, in fact, maybe an oppressive regime satisfies his fancy somehow.

How can the CIA tell the difference if the Iraqis make the forgery? Very had to tell indeed, especially when forger and the real creator are one and the same.
