I've pretty much typed myself out here, Karen, but I do have one more comment, given this latest post. Our Administration says he is a credible threat. Is that it? Does the left (and some of the far right) just not believe them? I think, and I suspect you agree, that it's important to keep a critical distance from any administration's pronouncements. As a concerned citizen, it seems to me we all want to make certain we are told the truth by an administration. This one has been caught in a few at least stretches of the truth on Iraq; previous administrations have been caught likewise. So I don't automatically believe or disbelieve an administration. If they don't offer convincing evidence and wish to invade another country without convincing evidence, then I grow concerned. As for this being a position of the "left", I think that's too broad a stroke. There are some prominent conservatives not on the boat--most obvious are Pat Buchanan and Robert Novak and Jules (whatshisname, a supply sider, escapes me at the moment). But, in addition, as I make my rounds in my little NJ borough, I find not so much opposition as concern, as lack of conviction that a case has been made, as worry it will make things worse rather than better (economy, stimulate terrorist attacks, long term occupation fears and what that means, etc.) So, I find opposition, concern, and support and it all exists along a continuum, not a Bush binary "you are with us or against us" choice.

>>Our Administration says he is a credible threat.<< A member of the administration almost flat out called Sy Hersh a terrorist. So should we send him to Guantanamo? Long experience suggests NO administration can be trusted at the outset. Credibility must be gained and preserved.
