I don't believe anyone on this thread is saying defensive war is immoral. They object to the pre-emptive nature of the proposed Iraqi conflict (despite sanctions and all the years etc). Its a real issue and I do not see any possible compromise.

Well put, John. As long as we are talking about this in the zone which is "moral," compromise language is hard to come by. But my version of the opposite argument, in the shortest form in which I can type it, is exactly as you say, the problems with preemptive attacks without an imminent threat. (My fingers are getting tired of typing that.)
