its a fitting response for a rhetorical comment, or a joke, isn't that what your post was? You know what I was trying to say in my prior post- that most expenses cause the CFO to write a check, and in the case of options, the exercise of the option means money is coming in to the company. Since I am an engineering manager and have been a founder of a startup I'm just as qualified to "argue" about options as the next guy. What I find interesting is how much the financial types trivialize the product leadership in these companies as if some PhD from MIT is a commodity who you can hold onto with a pay package that is roughly equivalent to any other staff member.
