Via has chipset ready for Athlon XP-M

Nothing to do with Centrino

IN YET ANOTHER COINCIDENCE of mobile technology being launched today, Via has put out an announcement. The company has a new mobile chipset launch timed to coincide with that of the Athlon XP-M. It's certain that neither launch has anything to do with Intel's Centrino being launched today, oh no.
The new chipset holds few surprises. It has an integrated S3 UniChrome graphics chip, fine for working on and watching DVDs but not something that will play the latest games. Fair enough, most laptops are bought for business use.

The Southbridge chip features 10/100 Ethernet, six channel sound, ATA133 and USB2. Nothing outstanding there either, except maybe the omission of Firewire.

To be honest, Via should have chosen a slower news day than today. It all seems rather humdrum next to the Centrino. µ
