Baffling. You must be French to understand his reasoning, obviously. All process, no substance. That's what he thinks we want. Mere motions to sell cynically at home as "victory" and allow TotalFinaElf to start pumping... I'm not so sure about that... because Chirac makes an obvious point. We could have done much better, but that has been the case at 1000 junctures in the developing situation there. The heat we've put on has been far better than doing nothing at all.

"More to the point,nothing happens without the threat of force. Bashing Bush for the buildup that is necessary for your alternative to war to be relevant is unfair IMO. " DId you miss my post where I said President Bush gets credit for all of it? If he waits and gets NATO,UN, Allies, improved popular opinion he wins! Declare success! I will never argue the fact. I want everything George Bush wants except the war! He could be called the "Diplomat Extroidinaire". Who could argue? When President Bush has worldwide support what choice does Saddam have? Down/out/away/etc. I think the fix is in already. Last Friday the new resolution was supposed to be ready by Wed. Dates are slipping because we cannot see what is being done. I just heard someone on the news mention 21 days. If President Bush is willing to wait 21 days, I believe he knows what he is waiting for NOW. You'll see. They will start letting it slip out slowly. Remember Ovitz and Swifty Lazar, Trump. THere are some good deal makers in our own government. There are lots of deals being circulated! And most of them favor President Bush if he can pull it off.
