Would you agree that secession is treason?

Well, I'm certain "secession" is not the same thing as "supporting the Confederacy" -- or that flying the Confederate flag is the same as "supporting the Confederacy".

I suppose one could see "secession" as a subset or special case of treason...

One has to keep in mind that when secession occurred, the nation was much younger and the commitments people had to the Union were not the same as they are today. Further, I don't believe most people who are supportive of the right to fly the Confederate flag would support secession today.

I would support the rights of California and New York to form their own nation at this point without it being considered "treason" at this time.
