Dabum;

This may be the wrong forum to discuss this but it seems to be the forum your on. I’m new to TA and am hoping you will be willing to share your insights and strategies. My time frame is a few days to whenever the outlook changes (“dump the losers and let the winners run” I hope). As a beginner I have lots of questions. I’ll ask them one at a time so as not to overwhelm you or myself.

When researching a stock what is the first thing you look at in the chart?

I use stockcharts.com. First I look at the 3 month chart. I check that the stock is above the 20 and the 200 MA. And where it is compared to the 3 month high. I check the volume for increasing and above average vol.
Ideally the stock will be in an uptrend making new highs and higher lows or trading in a range with a possible breakout.

I then check the 2 year chart for the same criteria. Looking for a pattern and also for overhead resistance. If all criteria are met it goes into a watch list for a possible long and if not I may discard the stock or if it looks bad enough put it in my short list.
