Ditto on Friedland's Ivanhoe presentation. He says it simply, take a sheet of paper, list the things that China doesn't need on the left and the things that they do need on the right and then focus your attention on the right side of the sheet.

Dave:

You may be right, but I seriously doubt that a country with a history of a rigid class system, which becomes communist is going to be flexibile enough to change. Right now the stars are aligned for China, as they were for Japan at one time.

Remember one way that many of their businesses are running at a loss and are only able to stay open as the result of government subsidies. That can't go on forever. I am not saying they will fail anytime soon, only that their moment is the sun will end.

I found Friedland's presentation to be a bit smug. If IVN has such incredible potential why isn't the price much higher. What's the counterpoint to his grand plan. Perhaps the country risk is more than he has described.

However it was informative, all in all very worth listening to. China will have a large effect on everything in the world tomorrow. ...And now I know why some of my juniors haven't done that well - positive water balance.
