No wonder some choose to be isolationists.

You're right; its why I want no part of it.

The worst part about this assassination was that it wasn't even political. He was cracking down on crime and the crime bosses didn't like it. And we think Saddam is evil!

Eric,

This nation building thing can be a real disappointment at times. Just like raising kids or trying to help the homeless or drug addicts. You give and give and try to help them make good choices - but sometimes you can't do much more than set things in motion and observe.

There was no nation building in Serbia / Yugoslavia. US just walked away. So there is nothing of US making that got screwed up in any way.

Democratic opposition to Milosovic was there prior to our war over Kosovo, and Milosovic nearly lost the elections prior to the war. If Clinton was paying a little attention, and rather than castrate CIA, he let CIA be CIA, a few millions of $ in support of this opposition in the election prior to the war could have tipped the balance.

I have seen US $ at work very successfully in my native Slovakia last year in their election. Not much money, and a huge success for the US point of view there, as pro-US parties won huge win. And BTW, now they have troops stations in Kuwait, in support of the US.

When US walked away, there was a lot of dissatisfaction with Milosovic, and in the next election the opposition won. They were not installed by the US in any way, there was no nation building.

The assassination is very unfortunate, but it is still unclear what the motives of the assassins were.

Joe
