BLAME GAME:

Say goodbye to the TURKISH bath. It will be banished. In its place will be the CRAWFORD FREEDOM bath, or something like that.

And that's just the beginning. Churlishness knows no bounds.

Namaste!

Jim

"not only will the US not be able to station ground troops in Turkey, but he won't even let them use Turkish air bases to assault Iraq:"

Another huge set back for Bush.

The battle plan is beginning to unravel. How many years will it take for our country to recover from this disaster?
I'll bet the administration is holding their breath about Tony Blair's plight.

Whoa! Let's take a close look at what's happening in Turkey. The Prime Minister (newly elected) is stating the essence of the previous resolution passed by parliament--which is in effect the law of the land. He has left open the possibility of submitting another resolution to a parliament in which his party (the AK) is now in a stronger position than it was prior to the election. He is being very careful about watching the developments at the UN, in Iraq, etc. My guess would be that, barring a strong NO vote in the Security Council, Turkey will be on board and will allow U.S. troops to use bases in the southeast part of the country as a staging area. But Turkey probably will not act until it is clear that there is support in the UN. Also Turkey will not act until it has assurances in writing from the U.S. about compensating Turkey for losses. They're not dummies. Last time they got an oral promise from Bush senior, but he didn't follow through.

I believe that war is 95 percent inevitable now, accompanied by support from Turkey. It is a big mistake, but that probably won't be apparent until later.
