TOKYO, March 13 (Reuters) - Global sales of chipmaking equipment fell 7.0 percent in January from the month before to $1.69 billion, an industry group said on Thursday, as the
semiconductor sector remained mired in a protracted slump.
The January figure was up 17.2 percent, however, from the same month a year earlier, posting a fifth consecutive month of year-on-year gains, Semiconductor Equipment and Materials
International (SEMI) said.
