>> Reverence for the United Nations translates into resistance to change. Liberals eager to be the definers of true conservatism say that once liberal institutions have been put in place it is unconservative not to conserve the institutions.

But it is reactionary, not conservative, to preserve the status quo of NATO 15 years after the end of the Cold War. Or of the U.N. Security Council, which is a snapshot of 1945 delusions and compromises. <<

Jung refers to this as enantiodromia. The liberals are now the conservatives and the conservatives are now the progressives.

Will is talking about the UN and i'm not ... see my last post to quehubo there, spells it out pretty much, what i'm talking about is a meaningful number of democracies onside .... and while there always tends to be a leader in any gathering, no amount of compulsion is acceptable .... there have been rumoured threats against Canada and more against México just recently, due to the position of the latter on UNSC .... not good form that, old chap .... as for those against Canada, we british columbians just shrug and do our best at a wry grin, because in the days immediately following those WTC towers coming down, the good ole boys at the US 'Commerce' department were spending their time and effort conspiring to screw us, that's where their priorities were, as we found out that October

But Will does make one central point in his last paragraph there - it's about domestic US politics .... many would agree with this, seems fairly clear that this administration needs perma-war quite badly, and on that its schedule is centred, to pull attention from the topics of economics, civil liberties, etc .... WMD it's called in some quarters, 'weapons of mass distraction'
