That article makes a ton of sense.

Unfortunately, people usually learn the hard way so maybe this "war business" will wake up the world to the fact that fuel substitutes need to be developed. If the US doesn't heed the warning then maybe some other country will develop the technology.

When California went through our so-called energy crisis, many of us learned that we could painlessly do without as much energy as we had used in the past. Many small changes made conservation painless. I was actually amazed at the amount of energy that could be saved with such a small effort. Many people working together conserved around 12 to 20 %...............and it was painless!!!! My GOd just shutting off the lights and extra TV's and radios made a difference. Many of us changed to energy saving light bulbs which made a difference. We are energy pigs here in this country. We waste more energy everyday than some countries use!

A comprehensive energy saving program can and should be instituted into a national plan................but such a plan can only be initialized when public sentiment accepts it. Perhaps this debacle over Iraq will help us take a baby step toward understanding that we must change our habits of energy consumption.
