violent Islamic backlash As you know, I’ve been saying this for some time. It won't happen because Sheik Hamza Mansur says it will. It will happen because Al-Azhar (and other major religious schools like them) call for jihad. Then if you're a Muslim, you have no choice. No country is invulnerable. You pick your fights. And then given an accurate dispassionate assessment, you decide on a strategy and finally tactics that will ensure victory with the minimum of loses. In VietNam, we blew it right from the start. You don’t pick to fight nationalism. Moreover, you don’t use WWII tactics in a counterinsurgency jungle war. Similarly you don’t pick a fight with a fanatical religion. And you don’t use a strategy and tactics (multi-year occupation) that paint bull’s eyes on your troops backs. BTW, you also don’t arrogantly anger most of the world, before the first shot is fired. In less than 18 months, to dissipate all the goodwill extended toward this country because of 9-11, to the point were people had rather side with a pariah like Saddam than with the U.S., is a remarkable accomplishment.
